Life Lessons From 29 Heroines Who Dared to Break the Rules. My Rating: 5/5 Review: This book is one of those that I chose to listen to, instead of hold in my hand and devour with my eyes (see, I'm metal af, I DEVOUR books...ahem) Anyway, yes, sometimes as a busy mom of three tiny legends, I haven't got the time nor energy to sit down and read meaning that the accessibility of an audiobook becomes my best friend every now and then. I won't argue with you that audio books are considered reading, because they are so there's no argument, but I will say that some books feel like they were made to be heard as well as seen. In Praise of Difficult Women is definitely the kind of book that's good for the ears.
As the subtitle explains, the book introduces the reader to 29 different women who dared to be seen as 'difficult' an adjective often used to describe women when they're being heard as well as seen and when they decide they don't want to act the way society tells them that they have to.
We're introduced to women like J.K Rowling (yes yes, she's controversial but as the book rightly states, she's a difficult woman) to Amelia Earhart. From Coco Chanel to Carrie Fisher. 29 inspiring and fascinating stories that are told in a light-hearted, sometimes funny and always motivating way.
Karbo writes in a way that makes me want to be a difficult woman. I want to be seen AND heard. I want my daughters to live in a world where difficult women are celebrated and not shushed.
I implore everybody to read (or listen) to this book. I shall be buying a copy for my girls to read and I shall be annoying Mr Retro until he reads it too.
May we know difficult women, may we be difficult women and may we raise those girls of ours to be so absolutely difficult that they never settle for anything less than they deserve.
You can grab a copy with this link (here) but please be aware it's an affiliate link so I do get something out of it. Just so you know!
Have you read the book? Who's the most inspiring woman you know? Who's your favourite difficult woman? Let me know!
